Color Printing

Epson Ultrachrome

9600 ultrachrome printThe Epson Ultrachrome printers have revolutionized ink based photographic fine art printing. The 11880 is a 60" wide printer incorporating the 8 ink Ultrachrome pigment inkset.

We believe that the 11880 produces the finest photgraphic prints available today! With archival ratings in the 60-100+ year range, a very wide color gamut and dynamic range and superb detail and sharpness Epson has established the standard against which every print must be evaluated. The prints are available on a variety of papers and canvas.

The Ultrachrome prints also an excellent choice for black and white prints. With a deeper black than other processes, these prints rival fibre based prints for their dynamic range. These prints are available in sizes up to 44" wide by any length a wide range of photo and fine art papers. In particular, many clients find the Hanemuhle Fine Art Pearl and Crane Museo Silver Rag papers an ideal choice for B&W printing, resembling air-dried fibre prints.

Lightjet 5000

lightjet 5000 photographicProducing a true continuous tone silver halide photographic reproduction, the Lightjet 5000 is a digital enlarger that uses digital files to expose photosensitive paper. The result is excellent detail, dynamic range and color saturation on print sizes up to 48x96". Prints are available in matte or glossy surfaces on Fuji Crystal Archive paper. These Lightjet 5000 prints are among the most archival photographic prints on the market, with a rating of over 60 years from Wilhelm Research.

While we generally believe the Epson prints are technically superior to the Lightjet prints, there may be situations in which a client prefers the Lightjet prints - if you are unsure, we would be happy to discuss the differences with you.

Color Giclee

A more painterly effect can be created by printing your images on watercolor paper or canvas using pigment inks. This is a process known as Giclee (pronounced zhee-clay). These prints take on a subtle quality that can be very impressive while the textured papers offer a dimension and substance not found in typical photographic paper. Our wide format Giclee printer is capable of printing images up to 44" for paper and 60" for canvas and the use of pigment based inks and fine art rag papers/canvas result in archival ratings over 100 years!
